Benfleet

Benfleet is in the Borough of Castle Point in Essex which covers the areas of Canvey Island, Benfleet, Thundersley and Hadleigh.

Benfleet is a residential town of around 19,600 residents with a strong sense of history thanks to its beautiful buildings. It has its own railway station with a train service to London Fenchurch Street which is a journey time of approximately 45 minutes.

Benfleet itself has some excellent primary schools and the highly regarded King John Academy and Appleton Schools and has easy access to the A13 and A127.

Benfleet was used as a Viking base until they were defeated by the Saxons at the Battle of Benfleet in 893 AD.

Benfleet has the highly regarded private members golf club, Boyce Hill. Alternatively there are pay and play golf courses at nearby Canvey Island and Belfairs in Leigh on Sea.

It has several local landmarks including St Marys Church and the Anchor, Hoy and Helmet and the Half Crown Pubs. These are all situated in the old town of Benfleet which is now a conservation area.

Interesting things to do in and around Benfleet include cycling along the 6 mile De Neumann Way from Benfleet to Leigh on Sea. This is named after Captain Peter De Newman who received the George Medal during World War II. There are many pleasant walks including walks in the spring through Bluebell Woods.

The housing stock is mixed consisting of one bedroom flats to some of the most sought after residences in Essex along Benfleet Road.
