Canvey Island
The population of Canvey Island is about 38,350.
Canvey Island is an island in the Thames Estuary off the coast of Essex. Before the building of the sea defences, shepherds and their sheep were the only inhabitants of the island.
The Dutch came to build the sea defences for Canvey Island in the 17th century and left two cottages on the island as a legacy.
Canvey has its own sports centre and swimming pool which has recently undergone a major refurbishment.
