Aaron joined us 6 weeks ago, so we thought it would be a good time to check in with him to see how it’s all going…

First question for you, we have Darren over in the the Benfleet office at 6ft 3 inches, the big question is, are you taller?

No, I’m the same 6ft 3 inches.

How’s your first month been?
It’s been brilliant, I’ve loved every second of it. I was made redundant just before Christmas and this has been a blessing.

What is your role within the company?

It’s a varied role – I deal with viewings for potential new tenants, management of properties, talking to landlords. It’s a real mix of everything.

Tell us about how you came to work for WD?
Previously I worked in house shares and lettings in Westcliff, I was there for about 6 months, then got made redundant just before Christmas.

I’m quite local to the office and I saw your recruitment ad and knew I needed to ‘get back on the horse’ so popped into the office to enquire and haven’t looked back since.

Describe the Lettings team in three words.
Attentive, Supportive and Efficient are the best way to describe our team.

What do you like most about working with the Hockley team?

The fact we all work together as a team, in previous roles I’ve felt quite isolated, and I think it’s good to have a team around you in this industry, if you are unsure of anything they are there to bounce ideas off.

Someone is always there to help, and we can get things done so much quicker. It’s the comradery, it’s refreshing and has helped with getting settled into the role.

What’s a typical day in the office?

Put simply, extremely busy! We get in just before 9, have a coffee and once 9am hits, the phone rings and it doesn’t stop.

Properties let very quickly, what advice would you give to someone looking to rent?
If you have any references from previous landlords, have them handy, anything that is going to make you stand out from the other applicants and sell you to the landlord.

Remember we meet you in person, they are going to choose their tenant from paper.

Top tips for someone looking to join the Lettings business?
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, what’s the saying ‘a man’s who’s never failed, has never tried’. If you have made a mistake own up to it, it can be sorted there and then, and people do make mistakes.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Hockley, but I have moved around quite a lot. I’ve lived in Thurrock, Stanford-Le-Hope, Southend, Rayleigh and Wickford!

If you could live anywhere in the UK where would it be?
I visit London a lot and I love a place called Victoria.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home from work?
Shoes off, have a chat with the family and then sit down and relax!

Favourite sport to watch and play?

100% basketball – I think this may have something to do with my height, I was always one of the first to be picked at school. I love watching it too.

Favourite holiday destination?

I love Italy.

Hobbies outside of work?
Painting, drawing and acting!

What’s your secret talent?

I can do impressions, Gollum from Lord of Rings! (We can confirm he is very good at this one!).

What might surprise people about you?
I talk a lot but I used to be the quietest person at school, I was so shy. Acting has helped with this and you would never know now!
